What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common, chronic inflammatory disorder, usually affecting the central portion of the face.  it is characterised by facial redness, telangiectasia ( spider type vessels) and sometimes lesions that look like acne pustules.  It is often difficult to diagnose Rosacea because the lesions can so closely resemble acne.  These blood vessels are abnormally sensitive to certain triggers (stimuli).

The common triggers are:

  • Alcohol (wine, spirits, beer)
  • Sun exposure
  • Temperature changes (sauna, heaters, air conditioning)
  • Drinking hot beverages
  • Spicy food (Chilli, pepper, curry)
  • Eating certain foods (tomatoes, oranges, mushrooms and shellfish)
  • Hormonal changes (pregnancy or menopause)
  • Exercise
  • Emotional factors (stress, anger, laughing, crying or embarrassment
  • Some Rosacea sufferers will suffer in silence, not aware that Intense Pulsed Light treatment can help significantly.

How do we treat Rosacea?

Our specialised team at the Aesthetic Laser Centre use combination treatments including a scientifically researched skincare regime and a series of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments.  This destroys unsightly blood vessels so they fade and slowly disappear.

This combination of treatments has proven to be the most effective to significantly reduce the effects of Rosacea.  It is important to treat Rosacea early before permanent skin damage occurs.

Will the treatment hurt?

Since IPL uses light, treatment feels like a pinch or snap of a rubber band.  Local anaesthetic or pain medication is not usually required.

How many treatments will I need?

To date, there is no known cure for Rosacea but the symptoms can be controlled effectively using IPL.  Every person is assessed individually and treatment tailored to your specific needs.  For effective results, a series of treatments are recommended, approximately two or three with maintenance treatment every twelve months depending on the severity of your condition.

Is Intense Pulsed Light better than other treatment methods?

IPL uses innovative patented technology that allows your treatment to be customised to your specific skin type and/or concern.  The flexible interactive approach to treatment cannot be achieved with any other laser or non-invasive method currently available.
