Co2 Carbon Dioxide Fractionated Resurfacing Laser
Co2 (Carbon Dioxide) Fractionated Resurfacing Laser is a treatment that creates small, controlled coagulation points (microscopic burns) in the skin, triggering a natural trauma response. As the skin heals, it sheds damaged cells and replaces them with fresh, healthy ones rich in collagen. This process helps to improve the texture and appearance of the skin.
Co2 laser resurfacing is most effective on lighter skin types, as there is a higher risk of pigmentation issues in darker skin types due to heat-induced trauma.
What can Co2 treat?
Skin concerns that can be reduced or improved with Co2 resurfacing include:
- Acne scarring
- Photodamage (sun damage)
- Pigmentation issues (excluding melasma)
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Other texture irregularities
Once fully healed, the skin typically appears smoother, more even, and often with a more youthful, plumper look.
Improvements are typically seen after the skin has fully healed, with optimal results appearing over several weeks as collagen production continues to increase.
How long does this treatment take?
The treatment typically takes 40-75 minutes depending on the area being treated.
How Does It Feel?
A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin 40 minutes prior to treatment to ensure comfort. However, once the procedure is complete, the skin may feel extremely hot, similar to a severe sunburn. For the first 24 hours after the treatment, the skin may remain hot, followed by a feeling of tightness, dryness, and sensitivity as healing progresses.
What downtime should I expect from Co2 Laser?
Downtime can range from 7–14 days, depending on the treatment intensity, the area treated, and the extent of the treatment. During this period, the skin will shed (slough off) the damaged layers. After the skin has healed, it may appear pink for several days to weeks as it continues to heal.
Additional Important Information?
To ensure proper healing, it is essential to follow post-treatment instructions carefully, including avoiding direct sun exposure, applying sunscreen, and moisturizing regularly.
