Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) for Hair Loss

The Aesthetic Centre now introduces PRP to enhance its Natural Hair Regrowth Program. Our doctors recommend that PRP is an effective way to enhance hair regrowth especially for more stubborn areas of hair loss i.e. receding hairline and crown area.

What is PRP?

PRP therapy is a new form of regenerative medicine that utilises your own blood, where the platelet rich plasma component is extracted, concentrated and then reintroduced into the scalp for hair loss.

Platelets are the key to the body’s ability to stop bleeding and repair damaged blood vessels and cells in the body. Platelets contain substances called growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body.

The concentrated platelets in PRP contain tremendous amounts of bioactive proteins, which include the growth factors PDGF and VEGF. These growth factors have been shown to initiate accelerated tissue repair, and, according to experts have also been shown to have positive effects on hair loss.

The growth factors, when released, promote tissue repair, angiogenesis (capillary formation), collagen production, and encourages normalisation of the hair follicular unit. Most importantly, evidence suggests PRP can reverse the miniaturisation process of hair follicles (a result of dihydrotestosterone, DHT) when injected into the balding areas of the scalp.

This treatment is associated with no risk of allergy or infections as we are essentially using your own byproduct.

WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO HAVE PRP TREATMENTS?

The first step would be for you to contact us at Aesthetic Laser Centre and book in a free no obligated consult with a hair consultant. During this time, we will explain how PRP is used in conjunction with the Natural Hair Regrowth Program to kickstart hair growth in stubborn areas i.e. temples or crown, or for overall rejuvenation. This will give you the best chance of fighting hair loss

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

The PRP therapy takes about 30 to 45 minutes from start to completion. First, blood is extracted from you (the amount will depend on the severity of hair loss) and then processed for about 10 – 15 minutes before the platelets can be extracted.

The platelet-rich component is then injected back into the scalp at multiple injection sites to cover the areas of concern. This generally takes about 15 – 20 minutes and usually performed without the need of anaesthesia or numbing agent. If needed, ice can be applied to the scalp to help minimise discomfort.

Although your scalp may feel tender and tight for a day or two, there is no downtime and you can return to work straight away.
